I have over 30 years of experience in all areas of the sport and truly enjoy working with developing players. The growth that can be witnessed from their early years up to their high school and college careers is exciting and extremely rewarding. Hello I’m Sarah Thorne!
I got married almost 2 years ago and moved to the KC area, I’m originally from Utah. But, I’m already a chiefs fan and have a puppy named Patty, after Patrick Mahomes to prove it.
Ive played volleyball for over 15+ years, some of my career highlights have been,
National Champion, All-American, multiple time MVP, All-State, All-Region player and 4 year high school varsity letter. I started my college career at Southern Utah University and Snow College as an outside hitter and then most recently at Weber State University as a DS/Libero. I have coached four club teams ages
12-15's and have also been an assistant coach for JV and Varsity teams at Salem Hills High School.
My family jokes i was born in the gym. I have a deep passion for coaching and playing.

I attended a small school in south central Iowa where I was a multi sport athlete and earned all conference honors and varsity athlete for multiple years in volleyball, basketball, track and softball. After high school I attended Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa where I played both volleyball and basketball. From there I travelled to Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas and played volleyball two seasons as an outside hitter and one season of softball. I graduated with a degree in Exercise Science and after 2 years as a cardiology technician, I continued my education and received certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologists where I have been working for the last 17 years.
I have been married to my husband, Todd for 18 years. We moved to Smithville 12 years ago. We have two children. Max, 15, is a sophomore at Smithville High School and Ella, 11, a 6th grader at Maple Elementary. We also have two cats. Ginny is our 2 year old inside cat and Buzz (Lightyear) is our 11 year old outside cat. We are a busy sports family with both kids participating competitively in multiple sports. When we are not busy with sports, we enjoy spending time with our family and friends and trips to Table Rock Lake.
My goal for the 12u team this season, is to learn the fundamentals of playing volleyball. I have
experience coaching youth volleyball through Smithville Parks and Rec. I am excited for this
opportunity to coach these girls and watch them grow and learn they game that I have loved all
of these years.
